About Charity Search

Charity Search allows you to search the web while helping to donate to charitable causes. Just type in what you want to search for and choose a search engine. Charity Search makes a donation, then redirects you to your chosen search engine with the search results.

How does it work?

Every time you visit Charity Search ads appear on the search page. Every time you search, we donate the money generated from the ads you saw and from our fundraising.

Charity Search gets paid a variable amount of money for every 1000 times an ad is displayed. This is known as CPM (Cost Per Mille, or cost per one thousand impressions). If we are getting paid $2.50/CPM, then we receive .25¢ every time we show an ad. If we show 2 ads on the search page we would receive .5¢ every time you visit the search page. .5¢ would be the current DPS (Donations Per Search) from our ads.

Besides receiving money from advertisements we fundraise so that we can increase our total DPS. We try and keep our total DPS at 1¢. In order to meet that goal, we make a guess at how many searches we expect in a given month. Based on that guess we fundraise for the extra amount of money so that we can afford to donate at 1¢/search.

Every time you submit a search to Charity Search we take note of it. We save the date of the search, but not what you searched for or any other personally identifiable information. (See more about privacy.) At the end of each month we figure out how many searches were performed and multiple that by the total DPS. This total is then donated directly to the month's organization.

How do you pick what organizations will receive the donations?

We have a list of organizations that we cycle through. If you would like an organization added to the list you can contact us and suggest it!
